One of the great intellects the world has known, Terence McKenna, he wasn't really into Madame Blavatsky, but that goes without saying. Theosophy and Blavatsky in general was considered a sort of religious new age version of spiritualism back in the 90's. His methods of thought are tremendous, far beyond Krishnamurti by all means, and he takes us back to the neolithic like no other. My point of divergence from McKenna is in his view of the age of the world and mankind. I basically do agree with Madame Blavatsky in the view of humanity's age and ages of the earth. If he was around today I would probably send him a letter explaining in clear terms some ideas and he may appreciate it. I actually do believe that Soma is the variety of mushroom Amanita Muscaria (including now extinct variants), but since Psilocybin mushrooms were such a new thing in his day, he may have not had the proper perspective to examine Muscaria on a more Shamanic level (and archaic, neolithic method). What I really love about McKenna is his freedom of thought, his love for the Neolithic (I share that love) and his all around imagination and inspiration in view of nature and humanity as well as the possibility of an alien interaction through mushrooms and shamanic plants (regardless of his accuracy, the point of understanding is fully there) thanks McKenna
